Running Mon Marine & Resort
Tuna & Dolphin Open
Three Days of Fishing Fun, Island Music & Magic
The new headquarters for sport fishermen on Grand Bahama Island—Running
Mon Marina & Resort—will kick off the season with a fantastic
fishing tournament designed to be fun for the whole family. The
Running Mon Tuna & Dolphin Open will be held June 6 - 8, 2002
and will bring together fishing boats of all sizes from Florida and
the surrounding islands to compete for over $25,000 in cash and
prizes.
Running Mon Resort’s 70-slip, full-service marina with floating
docks is located on a protected cove with its own inlet just 75
miles from Palm Beach. Everything you could need or want is on-site
including Port of Entry and Customs, fuel, bait, tackle, convenience
and duty-free liquor stores, bath and laundry. The resort’s
comfortable, Caribbean-style rooms all face the marina and the
MainSail Gourmet Restaurant features incredible meals by Austrian
Chef Franz that rival the finest anywhere in the islands!
Two of the most popular fish found in the Bahamas, yellowfin tuna
and dolphin, are both found in great abundance in June. What better
time for anglers to test their skill in friendly competition while
enjoying the calm seas and balmy weather. A complete slate of prizes
will be awarded for both species and special prizes will be awarded
to junior anglers (14 and under).
“The Tuna & Dolphin Open promises to be a three days of fun
for everyone,” said Gary Caputi, Tournament Director. “We’ve
been working hard to stage an event that offers great fishing action
and entertainment for the whole family. You’ll meet renowned
artist Carey Chen, see some of his latest work, get an autographed
poster and thrill to Barnaby the Magician who will amaze you with
magic and slight of hand. This is an event for the whole family!”
The Running Mon Open is cosponsored by Penn Reels, Furuno
Electronics, Salt Water Sportsman magazine, Venture Boats, Floscan
Instruments, Cannon Downriggers, Berkley fishing line, Boater’s
World, Canyon Gear Outfitters, Krystal Deep-Drop Reels and Capt.
Harry’s Fishing Supply. They are spicing up the cash prizes with
tackle and gear worth thousands of dollars! Captain’s bags with
over $150 in free goodies plus custom designed tournament tee shirts
will be provided and there are special reduced dockage and room
rates for contestants. A “Buddy Crossing” from Palm Beach Inlet
is being organized.
